Trick or Treat! We’re within 3 months of Halloween and since my mind has already begun to wonder about my costume, and it’s reasonable to do the same thing to you. And, of course, the Cemetery Crawl. If you haven’t joined us for one of these Halloweeny events before, they’re an interesting variant on the normal run format. To wit –
- Not necessary, but some visual Halloweenness is strongly encouraged. And awarded – there’ll be prizes* for this! (One for an individual and one for a couple). And don’t forget your car – the best costumed car will also get a prize* – arguably a better one than the humans get!
- Pioneer Cemeteries. We’ll visit three of them this year. While there we’ll find informational tidbits (and perhaps a historical revelation of two) provided about the folks we’ll be visiting. Another prize* here!
- No run leader, in the sense of someone who should know where they’re going. Instead, we’ll be traveling individually or in pairs. You’ll get a run sheet and a hearty “good luck – see you later” as you leave. (We’ll encourage cars with only one participant to join another car with 2 occupants so that everyone will have a non-driver available to figure out the clues).
- Chances to see gorgeous, familiar Miata’s on the road! This will be possible because the route will be a loop, and half of us will take each direction.
- A word about the prizes -- each will be priceless, though of remarkably modest expense.
As to the drive, think in terms of a 40–50-mile loop. All those miles will be paved, most of them pretty, some of them sporting. We’ll begin at the Troutdale Station Food Carts and end up for lunch at the Troutdale Station Food Carts (it does sound like a loop!). They have graciously agreed to set some tables aside for us and promised that each of us will get the best seat in the house.
