Portland Speed Tour featuring SVRA and Trans Am
I always love this event and would go there alone if I didn't have a wonderful Club to share it with. Here's what it's all about --
From the PIR website:
The PIR Speed Tour Features The Trans AM Series, SVRA Vintage, PSSA, Optima's Search for the Ultimate Street Car, and Hagerty's Cars and Caffeine Car show.
OPTIMA’s Search for the Ultimate Street Car is a safe, fun, and high-profile national championship event for street-legal performance vehicles.
Off the track, there are many things to see and do, including a car show, marque corrals, vendor row, lunchtime touring, and Portland’s famous Strawberry Shortcake! Join us for a fun weekend and add your signature to PIR’s racing history!
From Fred:
There are three elements here that appeal to me massively. The first, obviously, is an opportunity to catch up with other Club members. The second is the car corral – Haggerty sponsors it, and there will be a lot of participating cars of all sorts – think the sorts of cars that appeal to car lovers of all stripes! Finally, there’ll be some excellent racing very, very close to where we’ll all be. PIR has no shortage of vendors so food and other goodies are close by, and the pits will be fully accessible so we’ll be able to ogle fully.
It is necessary to register in advance to gain entry to the event. (Independently, please also register for this event on the Club site). Specifics are:
Registration week-end registration is done at https://speedtour.net/portland/
Registration costs $50 and each Car Show Registration includes:
- 2 Weekend Tickets to the Vintage and Trans Am Races
- 1 car pass
- Touring laps on the race track Saturday
- VIP Parking
- Full access to the race car paddock
In registering I identified my car as an "Import Car". BE SURE TO IDENTIFY YOUR GROUP/CLUB AS MT. HOOD MIATA CLUB.
The Club will have a designated area for parking/showing off our cars, generally in the area where cars are on show. We’ll use this as a base point during the week-end’s activities. We'll have the Club Canopy there, and It will be wise to bring folding chairs, appropriate clothing and sun protection, lots of water (recall that we’re discussing July here) and food (though PIR’s vendors will be there in full force too if you prefer).
For the truly intrepid, there’ll be a strictly voluntary breakfast at the nearby Jantzen Island Bar & Grill (located inside of the Holiday Inn Portland, Columbia Riverfront, 909 N Hayden Island Dr, Portland, OR 97217) at 8:00 AM Saturday. We’ll caravan to PIR from there.
Location: Portland International Raceway,
1940 N Victory Blvd, Portland, OR 97217
Time: Flexible, except for breakfast
