Portland SVRA Speedtour and Haggerty Cars & Caffeine Car Show
July is a full month at Portland International Raceway. I have two events that I do my best not to miss – The Rose Cup Race, which will be held at PIR on July 13 & 14 (we’re organizing a separate outing for that one – see the Club’s event schedule), and this one - the Portland Speedtour including, Trans Am and vintage racing, and Haggarty Cars & Caffeine Car Show – I love both of these. The PIR Speedtour/Haggarty event encompasses Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In the past, there have been low-speed PIR laps on each of Saturday and Sunday and this year’s write-ups promise that again. Our Club event will encompass only Saturday and Sunday.
The car watching and racing are wonderful – watching is best on Saturday and as recently as last year it was very, very good.
The Speedtour/Haggarty event is explained more fully at the PIR website at Portland Speedtour
It is necessary to register in advance to gain entry to the event. Specifics are:
Registration costs $50 and includes:
- 2 Weekend Tickets to the Vintage and Trans Am Races
- 1 car pass
- Touring laps on the race track Saturday & Sunday
- VIP Parking
- Full access to the race car paddock
Registration is done at Seedtour Registration I identified my car as an "Import Car". BE SURE TO IDENTIFY YOUR GROUP/CLUB AS MT. HOOD MIATA CLUB.
The Club will have a designated area for parking/showing off our cars, generally in that area where cars are on show. We’ll use this as a base point during the week-end’s activities. Participants will be wise to bring folding chairs, appropriate clothing and sun protection, lots of water (recall that we’re discussing July here) and food (though PIR’s vendors will be there in full force too if you prefer).
For the truly intrepid, there’ll be a strictly voluntary breakfast at the nearby Shari’s at 8:00 AM Saturday. It’s located at 9730 N Whitaker Rd, Portland 97217. We’ll caravan to PIR from there.
